December 4, 2004

2:30 PM George Carlin describes aging:

We BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60. By now, we’ve built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it’s a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday! Once we get into your 80s, every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn’t end there. Into the 90s, we start going backwards; “I’m only JUST 92.” Then a strange thing happens. If we make it over 100, we become a little kid again. “I’m 100 and a half!” May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

Hat tip to the Smart Christian Blog. 2:28 PM I’m not sure about the point of this, but it did make me smile. 2:25 PM 3205 miles. 8:55 AM You can still buy tickets for One Incredible Moment, Calvary’s Christmas concert featuring our Festival Choir & Orchestra, Drama Team, Soloists and Multi-Media. There will be four performances—Saturday and Sunday, December 11-12, 4 & 7 PM. Tickets are $4. Childcare provided Birth-Age 4. (I received an inside tip that an ensemble from the choir will be performing music from the concert this Sunday between services in the portico.) 8:46 AM Compassion Update … Pastor Howard Duncan reports that Operation Christmas Child was a grand success. The church gave 313 shoeboxes compared to 201 in 2003. As a regional collection center, we received 1547 shoeboxes compared to 1382 last year … All 60 Angel Tree ornaments were taken last Sunday. For those who would like to help others during the holiday season, we still need a few volunteers to provide gifts to be distributed through New Moms. See the “Greater Love” table in the portico this Sunday for more details. 8:41 AM Saturday shout-out to Jerry and Beverly Hansen in LaRue, Texas, to Dale and Jean Stoffer, Joshua Nathan in Nigeria, Brian Rhodes, Anita Ashland, Paul Daly, Len Goss, and to Laura Keyte in New Zealand.
