September 20, 2004

6:16 PM Here are two new entries in the Crosswalk weblog: Fortune Cookies, Moon Pies, and Da Bears Telling the Truth About Yourself 8:29 AM Yesterday after the third service, Marlene and I ate lunch at the Lotus Restaurant in Elmwood Park. At the end of the meal, we got fortune cookies. Mine read: “This time is right to make some new friends.” That seems like a good word for the coming week. We’ll see how it plays out. Actually this looks to be a very busy week. We have the 2nd Focus on the Family video on Wednesday night, First Watch begins on Thursday morning, then Marlene and I fly to Tampa (my last trip of the year) where I’m giving four messages from Joshua at the “President’s Forum” Friday and Saturday. Then we have the services on Sunday morning with many guests (we hope), and Stephen Bennett speaks on Sunday night. 8:18 AM An encouraging note from Nate Hodson, a student a Western Kentucky University and the son of Roy and Debbie Hodson of Emmalena, Kentucky:

I was sitting in the library late tonight trying to study (you always feel like you accomplish more if you’re in such a studious place like the library) and a guy sat down a table or so over from me and put a book down. Lo and behold I glance over and it’s a copy of “An Anchor for the Soul.” So, I walked over to him, introduced myself, and asked where he got the book. He said that “some guy” spoke to his fraternity tonight and gave the books out. He couldn’t emember exactly who “that guy” was, but I think he may have been the director of the Baptist ministries on campus. I wasn’t clear if everyone in the meeting got a book, but I think several did. His friend who came up to our conversation later on had one as well. Anyway, we talked for a little while and I asked if he planned on reading it, and he said he hoped to. I gave it a glowing endorsement and allenged him to do so. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch the name of the guy who had the book and didn’t think fast enough to exchange numbers with him, but several guys of Lambda Chi Alpha at Western Kentucky University have been given a great tool that shares the Gospel. I just pray that I bump into this guy again on campus and that time he’ll share the testimony of how God is radically changing his life. God is really doing some neat things on our campus this semester. The fact that there was a talk at the frat house about Christ is a pretty big deal! It’s exciting to be a part of it all.

8:17 AM First Watch for men begins in 3 days. Men, will you be joining us this Thursday at 6 AM?
