6:10 PM Today’s entry in the Crosswalk weblog is called Angry Christians and the Election. 2:33 PM On the road in Birmingham, Alabama We left yesterday after the third service and drove to Nashville where we spent the night with Marlene’s brother Mark and his wife Ruth. We were up early this morning and arrived in Birmingham about noon. This is Samford’s mid-term break so the campus is mostly deserted. When Nick came out to meet his, he forgot his keys so he had to climb through a window of a friend’s room to get back inside. Later we out for some very fine barbecue at a place called Nick and Jim’s. At the moment Marlene and Nick are out shopping. I love Alabama. At a rest stop just inside the state line, I looked around and saw some cotton fields with the harvesting equipment nearby. It’s hot right now, hot and muggy, which is how it is in Alabama about 9 months out of the year. This made me smile: At the restaurant, the waitress asked us,”Are y’all ready for y’all’s check?” Two y’alls in one sentence. That’s something you won’t hear in Oak Park.
