May 30, 2003

This Sunday is Day in Our Village in Oak Park. That means that Lake Street will be partially blocked on Sunday morning, making parking more difficult than usual. On the plus side, it means that after church, you can stroll either way on Lake Street and join the multitudes in this village-wide party. There will be street musicians, concerts, sidewalk vendors, and booths from many local groups (including OPCA) in Scoville Park. It’s the biggest celebration of the year in our village and I plan to join the fun once the fourth service is over.

Sermon Schedule—Summer 2003 Title: Passing the Torch Book: 2 Timothy Last year as we came to the end of our journey on the “Bible Bus,” I was struck by the powerful message of 2 Timothy. Though it is a short book (only 83 verses), its message is extremely powerful. Since it was the final letter Paul wrote before his death, it is like his “Last will and testament.” This letter is a stirring call to faithfulness to Christ in the midst of an unbelieving world. One generation (Paul) passes the torch of truth to another generation (Timothy). The message speaks to us in two ways: First, as a challenge to our own faithfulness, and Second, as a challenge to make sure we also pass the faith along to those who come after us.
