8:54 AM Just received a letter from a prisoner in Ohio named Tammy. She read “An Anchor for the Soul” and wrote to say thanks. After her mother died, and the death of her child, and her brother’s suicide, she turned to alcohol and then to crack cocaine, and that addiction led to theft and that eventually landed her in prison. Near the end of her letter, she says that she is glad to be where she is:

I feel his presence around me and I feel good sort of about being here because if I was still out there I would be using and not reading God’s Word. So it’s a blessing in disguise for me. I miss my kids and fiancé but it will pay off in the end.

The workers have installed shiny new gutters on the portico … We’re expecting a large crowd of senior adults at the Golden Heirs meeting for the concert by a local orchestra … Later this morning 81 high school students and 17 leaders will leave for their winter retreat … Tonight Power Connection (our junior high ministry) hosts their annual “Mall Hunt” … Tickets for “The Passion of the Christ” go on sale ($7 apiece) Sunday between services… . I just checked the order of worship for Sunday and saw that we’re singing one of my favorite songs in the Traditional Service—”I’d Rather Have Jesus.” Bev Shea made the song famous in the Billy Graham crusades… . I’ve been meditating all week on my sermon—”The Incomparable Christ” … It’s based on this powerful phrase from the Apostles’ Creed: “I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord.” 8:23 AM Buy Piper!
