Is It Wrong to Demand Your “Rights”?

March 10, 2009

I think 1 Corinthians 7 and 1 Peter 2 offer some help in this regard. The modern clamor for “rights” isn’t all that new because even since Eden, people have claimed the “right” to do whatever they want to do. 1 Corinthians 6 reminds us that while all things are permitted, not everything is beneficial for me or for those around me. Sometimes not exercising my rights is the most godly way to live. As Luther said, the Christian is the most free man, servant to none. He is also the most bound man, servant to all. It’s the attitude of heart that  matters.
