“He Doesn’t Deserve Our Disappointment”

I talked with a friend whose grandson was born with some difficulties that mean he will never grow up to a “normal” life. Speaking of the grandson he adores, my friend said,
“He doesn’t deserve our disappointment.”
Then he added,
“He deserves our love and affection.”
Exactly right.
