40-40-40

February 17, 2010

My friend Rich Bonham told me about an exciting prayer initiative timed to coincide with the 40 days of Lent. The Pray Europe movement challenges Christians to . . .

40 days of prayer for
40 counties in Europe for
40 seconds a day.

Now that’s an idea we can all get our hands around. Once you go to the website, you find links for all the countries in Europe. For instance, when I clicked on the link for the Czech Republic, I found the following religious demographic:

  • 59% Unaffiliated
  • 27% Roman Catholic
  • 9% Unspecified
  • 3% Other
  • 2% Protestant

There are four specific prayer requests. Here is #4: “Ministry work is hard because of low response. Pray that ministry workers will not get discouraged, but see their importance in God’s work in the Czech Republic. Pray that low response is changed to high response!”

You can sign up for a daily email update that will help you focus your prayers on a different country each day during Lent. You can learn more at the Pray Europe website. I just signed up, and I hope that many of my readers will join me in the 40-40-40 prayer challenge.
