How Can We Find Comfort in the Death of Our Loved Ones?

January 14, 2010

There maybe no more tragic time in life than when a loved one dies and leaves us wondering if they ever came to know Jesus.

However, what we do know is that all men have sinned (Rom 3:23), that our own sin has purchased us an eternity in hell apart from God (Rom 6:23), and that it is only through embracing Christ as Savior that we can be saved (Rom 10:9).

So, while we cannot know for sure who is destined for wrath or who is destined for mercy, we know the God who does the judging and we can take comfort in two things:

1.     Because God is just, there will be no one in heaven who should not be there.

2.     Because of God’s merciful and compassionate grace, there will be no one in hell that should not be there.

We serve a God whose ways are beyond our comprehension but who has given us his Son, his Spirit, and His word for comfort in times like these.
