Should I Become a Deaconess?

odun from nigeria asks:
l am a single lady want to make me a deaconess in my local church. in need your reply. is it a good thing for single to hold that post
Ray Pritchard’s answer

I think a good case can be made for the role of deaconess from 1 Timothy 3:11. I would say that a) if the leadership of your church has invited you to consider this position, and b) if you have looked at the spiritual qualifications in this verse and take them seriously, and c) if you have a desire to serve in this way, I think you should say yes.

It’s a great honor to serve as a deaconess. You will have many opportunities to serve the Lord. And your willingness to serve may encourage other women (both married and single) by your godly example.
