I think perhaps the best way to say it would be like this. The Old Testament temple was a visual symbol of the architecture of heaven. It taught many truths about how God was to be approached by faith, with clean hands and a pure heart. Revelation 21-22 seem to teach that there will be a literal temple of some sort in the New Heaven and the New Earth but we are not given very many details about it.
