China Clippings

Posted by Ray Pritchard on Wednesday, May 2, 2007

Anthony Bollback has just posted the latest edition of China Clippings. A Chinese government official recently estimated the total number of Christians in China at an astounding 130 million. Perhaps the greatest need is for trained leaders in the local churches to disciple the estimated 7-10,000 new converts every day.

Christmas Eve Shout Out

Posted by Ray Pritchard on Sunday, December 24, 2006

It’s Christmas Eve in Gulf Shores and I can’t tell you where people are, but I can tell you where they aren’t. They aren’t anywhere near Gulf Shores. A teeming resort in the summer, the whole area is virtually deserted at the moment. Yesterday when I went shopping late in the afternoon, the mall was ...

Christmas on the Redneck Riviera

Posted by Ray Pritchard on Saturday, December 23, 2006

I am writing this note from a condo a few yards from the beach in Gulf Shores, AL. This particular area, a region that starts here and goes east into Florida—to Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, Destin and then on to Panama City, is affectionately known at the Redneck Riviera. The beaches here are sparkling white, and outside ...

What’s a Shout Out?

Posted by Ray Pritchard on Saturday, December 9, 2006

Last night Duane Follman asked me to explain a “shout out.” It’s means to shout out “hello” to a friend. It’s like when you’re walking down a crowded street and see a friend on the other side so you raise your voice and shout out, “Hello!” to him. A shout out is a heartfelt Hello! to friends across the dis ...

Posted by Ray Pritchard on Thursday, December 7, 2006

After wrapping up the conference at Word of Life yesterday morning, we made our way to the Albany airport. From there we flew to New York and then on to Chicago. Our plane came in over Lake Michigan after sundown, giving us a spectacular view of the lights of downtown Chicago. The whole region is blanketed with six inches o ...

New Dudley Pictures

Posted by Ray Pritchard on Monday, November 13, 2006

It’s been a while since I posted any pictures of Dudley, the basset hound that joined our family last Christmas Eve. In another week or so, we will celebrate his first birthday. He’s the best dog we’ve ever had, keeping in mind that like all bassets he loves to sniff and dig and get dirty. Last week he sta ...

Monday in Reno

Posted by Ray Pritchard on Monday, October 9, 2006

5:21 PM Just got back from our visit to Lake Tahoe. Hard to find the right adjectives to describe the sheer, overwhelming beauty. Awe-inspiring. Our hosts for the trip were Greg Kuehn, pastor of Sierra Bible Church, his wife Debbie, and Dave Smith, executive pastor. Dave and Greg have worked together for 17 years, and they ...

Nev-ADD-uh

Posted by Ray Pritchard on Sunday, October 8, 2006

This morning we started the Bible conference at Sierra Bible Church in Reno, Nevada. I was informed later (by my sweet wife) that I had mispronounced the name of the state. I called it Nev-ODD-da. It’s supposed to be pronounced Nev-ADD-uh. I guess it’s sort of like outsiders pronouncing Illinois with an “s” on t ...

Sidlow Baxter’s Secret

Posted by Ray Pritchard on Friday, September 8, 2006

I have greatly enjoyed reading E. A. Johnston’s biography of J. Sidlow Baxter, the much-loved British Bible teacher who had a world-wide ministry and who gave us many books, including the majestic (and massive) Explore the Book. Near the end of the biography, Johnston comments on the “secret” of Baxter’s vibrant ...

A big Saturday shout out to Alan, BJ, Linda, David Langerfeld, and the 33 others from the Tupelo area who are currently on a medical missions trip to Ecuador. They are serving in the mountains south of Quito, not far from the volcano that erupted several days ago. As Nick said, “It sounds like their trip is going to be a bl ...

The King is Dead, or Is He?

Posted by Ray Pritchard on Friday, August 18, 2006

Have you seen Elvis lately? Filmaker Adam Muskiewicz is offering $3 million to anyone who finds Elvis Presley alive. He and a partner have launched the Elvis Wanted website that contains, among other things, a page called “Elvis Sightings and Leads.” When I heard about this, I remembered a story that I used as a sermon illu ...

We will discuss these questions:"If I believe, why do I doubt?" "Is it a sin to doubt?" "How can doubts help my faith to grow?”

Posted by Ray Pritchard on Monday, December 8, 2003

8:21 PM Well, it was incredible. I'm not an expert on such things, but I am told that "Two From Galilee" was several levels of difficulty beyond anything our music ministry has attempted before. On one level, it felt as if you were watching a professional stage production. On a completely different level, it felt not li...
