Prepping for the Pentagon

Topics: Books·Travel

This week’s travel schedule takes us in an entirely new direction. Tomorrow morning Marlene and I are flying to Washington, DC where I will be speaking at the Pentagon Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday morning. This is such an unusual invitation that it deserves a bit of explanation.

In May 2007 Moody Publishers released my book on spiritual warfare called Stealth Attack. The book is all about spiritual warfare in an age of terror. I doubt that I would have written it before 9/11. Stealth Attack contains many references to current events, drawing parallels between the tactics of the terrorists and the way Satan attacks believers. Soon after the book came out, the PR department at Moody Publishers sent a copy to the head chaplain at the Pentagon. He read it, liked it, and ordered more copies. All of that happened within a few weeks of the book’s publication. In February of this year, the chaplain contacted Moody to see if I would come to the Pentagon to speak to the weekly prayer breakfast.

And that’s why we’re heading to Washington tomorrow. I’m speaking on Wednesday morning at the Pentagon and then to another group on Thursday morning. And there may be one or two other events as well.

We count it great honor to speak to the men and women who serve our country through their work at the Pentagon. God willing, we plan to record the message and turn it into a podcast next week. Plus we’ll post pictures on the weblog as soon as we can.

I ask you to pray for the Lord’s blessing, for strength, good health, clarity, wisdom, and the filling of the Holy Spirit as we travel to Washington this week.

Hi Ray
This is indeed a wonderful open door for your ministry, in this strategic place. I will be praying for you. May God bless you and all the brave people who work in the Pentagon. A place where decisions are made that effect us all, even down here in Aussie.

Rajesh, I am grateful for your kind words. Who knows? Maybe the Lord will open the door to speak to the Indian parliament someday? This morning I was reading in 2 Kings 23 about Josiah’s reforms of Judah. It is one of the most thrilling chapters of the Bible, reminding me that the Lord can raise up leaders who can change the course of history. We could use a host of men like Josiah today—in the US and in India and in every nation of the world. Blessings, Ray

My husband, Bud, and I have stood on the hill overlooking the Pentagon and wept. That was in November 2001. Our prayers are indeed with you today. Two of our 3 sons live in the D.C. area, it is always on our hearts.
God speed!
