That Doritos Commercial

Did you see that Doritos ad that aired in the first quarter of the Super Bowl? In fact, it aired during the first commercial break after the kickoff. The ad featured a young man eating a bag of Doritos while driving a car. He is distracted by an attractive young woman walking by, also eating Doritos. As one commentator put it, “wackiness, bent sheet metal and love ensue.” A USA Today poll ranked it fourth out of 80 Super Bowl ads. Advertisers paid $2.6 million for a 30-second ad in Sunday night’s game. Some of the ads cost a million dollars to produce.

Why do I mention this? Because Dale and Wes are graduates of Word of Life Florida Bible Institute. And Barrett served in the Word of Life summer camp counseling program. When the crowd gathered at the conference center to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday night, Wes and Barrett’s grandparents were in the crowd.
By the way, the young men did not know their ad had been chosen the winner until it aired during the Super Bowl. All they knew was that their ad was one of five finalists.
When I saw Wayne Phillips, the grandfather, this morning, he didn’t say a word about the game. He was just proud of his grandsons and their winning Super Bowl ad.
